How do all the parts of the NHS fit together?

How does the NHS in England work? How do the different parts fit together? Watch our video.

The NHS is a complex system that is constantly changing. The 2012 Health and Social Care Act brought in sweeping reforms to the NHS and this animation explains those changes, how the NHS has developed since the Act, and how the NHS is structured.

Recent changes to the health and care system mean that since we made this video, there has been a change to the structure of the NHS. From 1 April 2019, NHS England and NHS Improvement have come together to work as a single organisation although they have not formally merged.
